My dead friend Zoe is a drama of dark comedy that follows the journey of merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a US Army Afghanistan veteran who is in disagreement with his family thanks to the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), his best Dead friend of the army. Despite the persistence of his VA group advisor (Morgan Freeman), his mother’s difficult love (Gloria Reuben), and the levity of an unexpected loving interest, Merit’s dysfunctional friendship with Zoe maintains the world’s isolated duo. This is even the grandfather of Merit (Ed Harris) – hidden in the family’s ancestral house – begins to get lost and needs the only thing he refuses … helps. In its essence, this is a movie of friends about a complicated friendship, a divided family and the complex ways in which we process the grief.
